the first agricultural fields they encounter. Eager to replenish their energy stores, they come
in swarms. The duck hunts are fast and furious. It is "in your face" type of duck hunting. At
Goose Haven Outfitters we try to duck hunt in fields as often as possible. But we go to where
the birds are. Feeding ducks piling into a Barely field is truly something to witness.
We operate our duck hunting season in September and October. The duck hunts are good
all season long. Habitat conditions, weather and crop status have an influence on when the
ducks migrate. Every year is a little different. But generally speaking, in the early part of the
season we see alot of Teal, Wigeon, Gadwall, Mallards, Pintail and Blue bills on the big water.
Mid to late September more Mallards and Pintail arrive. The Teal, Wigeon and Gadwall will
start to depart further south. And Scoup and Canvasbacks will have a large presence on the
big water. In October we see the northern flights of Mallards and Pintail. Most of the Wigeon,
Teal and Gadwall have left the area. And Lesser and Greater Scoup will be on the big water.
A mixed bag when duck hunting is common. We often harvest 12 different species of ducks
