The Canada waterfowl hunting in Saskatchewan is fabulous. We are fortunate to be in
such a perfect location for waterfowl hunting. The waterfowl season starts September 1st
and we operate through the 3rd week in October. We harvest a wide variety of waterfowl.
Virtually every duck known to North America visits our area. We hunt various species of the
Canada Goose, White Fronted (Specklebelly) geese, Ross geese, Blue geese, Snow geese
and Sand Hill Cranes. We offer 2 waterfowl hunts a day. We usually go goose hunting in
the morning and duck hunting in the afternoon. We are located in central Saskatchewan
near the town of Meadow Lake. The area has numerous bodies of water providing roosts
and intermediate stopping points for migrating waterfowl. The largest being Meadow Lake
itself. Meadow Lake is not just a lake, it is a weedy, mucky, shallow lake. It is bordered
by marsh and is a haven for waterfowl. There is no real public access so the birds remain
undisturbed. Our waterfowl guides take full advantage of the hundreds of thousands of
waterfowl that converge on the area every year. The spotters and waterfowl guides work
closely to ensure the best waterfowl hunts possible. At Goose Haven Canada Waterfowl
Hunting Outfitters we have a wealth of birds, an abundance of fields and prime habitat
for waterfowl. As a quality waterfowl outfitter what matters to us is your enjoyment and
complete Canada waterfowl hunting success.
The goose hunting is typically in fields. We can sometimes accomodate a goose hunt
over water. But it really depends on the location. The last thing we want to do is hunt
geese off their roost. The geese in our part of Saskatchewan move early in morning. We
normally depart the lodge around 4:30am. We want to be set up and waiting. The geese
will fly until around 9:00am and then start to head back to the roost. The wrinkle in this
schedule is often caused by weather. When we have some weather; rain, fog, wind or
snow the geese sometimes change. How they change and what they do seems to vary.
But weather creates a question mark. When the weather is mild and normal we can set
a stop watch to their patterns. When it is raining we have seen geese stay on the roost
until 11:00am. They then stayed in the field until 2:00pm and did not bother to feed that
evening. During low pressure or cold fronts geese are usually pushed from the north.
While the geese become a bit more unpredictable with weather, we welcome the weather
with the expectation of large flocks of fresh birds arriving.
We can start hunting geese in the afternoon on October 15th. Prior to October 15th we
cannot goose hunt past 12:00 noon. The law includes snow geese. After October 15th is
when we can plan 2 goose hunts a day of clients prefer a afternoon goose hunt over a
afternoon duck hunt. We always only harvest a daily limit per person per day. But we
often find fields with primarily snow geese and fields with primarily dark geese. Then we
can morning goose hunt for dark geese and an afternoon goose hunt for Snows. What
ever your preference, we can put together a waterfowl hunting trip to remember!
The duck hunting is a "world class" experience. We are professional waterfowl hunting
outfitters. You can be assured we will customize your waterfowl hunt to meet your needs.
We typically duck hunt in the afternoon. With liberal limits and an abundance of ducks,
your Canada waterfowl hunting trip will be outstanding. There are no waterfowl guides
that will work harder for your success. We have 3 well trained Labrador retrievers, but of
course your dog is always welcome. In some of our duck hunting spots a retriever is a
requirement. You will be impressed with our experienced Labs. Precision handling, and
excellent blind manners make them a joy to hunt with. Goose Haven Canada Waterfowl
Hunting Outfitters has the knowledge, experience, equipment and guides to make your
waterfowl hunt the trip of a lifetime. Our personalized service will meet your every need.
